Education

I have a Master of Arts degree specializing in Chinese, a Master of Teaching degree specializing in Secondary and ESL/LOTE, and a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Chinese and minoring in Japanese, all of which were completed at the University of New England. In addition to this, I have a Diploma of Policy Development from the Canberra Institute of Technology, a Diploma of Government from the Australian Public Service Commission, and a Certificate of Completion from Shaanxi Normal University in Xi'an, China.

Experience

I have over 3 years of tuition experience in Mandarin Chinese and Japanese both privately and through the Oorala Aboriginal Centre at UNE. This has been delivered both face to face and via Skype. I have taught in high schools as part of my Master of Teaching degree studies. As part of my Australian Public Service experience, I have also provided support to graduates entering the Australian Public Service as a buddy and mentor. During my final year of my bachelor's degree, I won the Endeavour Cheung Kong scholarship to study in China for one semester, which I went on to do in Xi'an. I enjoy getting to know the people under my care and watching them develop exponentially. I also find I learn as much from my students as they learn from me.

Hobbies

I am a bit of a nerd at heart. I enjoy playing computer games and board games. I also enjoy doing Live Action Role-playing as part of an exercise regime. I often tell dad jokes, and enjoy silly humour. When I teach language, I try and do so using classroom-friendly Australian English ('Strayan). It's easy for me to do as I know my material, and I feel it's easier for students to digest as it's more relaxed than using standard English, which is used more in the formal classroom.
